GREETINGS and welcome to the musical adventures of Laughing Matters. My name is Josh. I am a supreme music nerd. As you have clicked upon the about page of my website, here is a bit about my life as a musician and an instructor. . .

My parents sent me to my first piano-lesson when I was six years old. To this day, those piano classes are one of the greatest gifts I have ever received. At first, the classes focused primarily on reading sheet music, and later expanded to include composition/improvisation techniques, chord charts, and ear training.

In my teenage years I began performing, composing, and exploring digital audio production. Soon after high school I received a very cool opportunity to help my aunt teach piano-classes at The Piano Studio in Marin County, CA. Upon her relocation to Southern California, I was able to open the doors to Laughing School of Music in 2011. Laughing School of Music has since grown to offer group classes and individual instruction in piano, guitar, drums, ukulele, bass, voice, music theory, and digital audio production.

Playing and teaching music paved the way for me to play weddings, corporate events, dance parties, family celebrations, and holiday sing-alongs. I have also received a handful of extremely fun opportunities to compose and perform with many successful entertainers such as Simon Cowell, Toni Braxton, Dave Koz, Cloris Leechman, Christopher Lloyd, Cary Elwes, and more. 

To accompany myself playing live, I spend much of my time exploring the endless possibilities of music-production; mixing notes and noises together using these fascinating technological-toys we have at our fingertips. Since 2016, I have released four albums under the stage-name Laughing Matters, including the newest album, “This is Now”, which can be streamed and/or purchased by clicking this.

Laughing Matters recently joined forces with Gone Wilder Productions, and together we produced a music video of epic proportions. With the support of the most awesome friends and fans imaginable, along with countless work-hours from a team of superhero film-makers, we released our first official music-video for the hit single “Wanted”.

I know you will be listening for yourself, though to best describe it in words, the music of Laughing Matters is the sweet hot nectar of genre-hopping sound-candy thwomp-sauce with melted chocolate and extra cuddles. Due to the awesomeness of friends and fans like you, I have been lucky enough to play these tunes from New York to San Francisco, Vancouver, Costa Rica, Chicago, Seattle, Philadelphia, Portland, and more, on a life-long mission to inspire dancers and listeners across the GALAXY.
